Tanriani’s Story

Tanriani is a Cocoa farmer from Sigi District. She actively engaged in the pioneering farmer field school initiative organized by the REAF II Project, a program designed to empower farming guides. Through her participation in 12 immersive sessions of the field school, Ibu Tanriani’s commitment and enthusiasm stood out, leading her to a pivotal opportunity. Her dedication bore fruit as she was selected to advance to the next level – advanced training to become a farming guide herself.

During the Workshop Stakeholders event, held in conjunction with the Annual Monitoring of the REAF-II Project, Tanriani was granted the platform to share her story. With gratitude and conviction, she recounted her journey, “It all began with my limited understanding of cocoa cultivation. I took part in ADRA’s farmer field school, and fortunately, my farm was chosen as a learning plot. Initially, I rarely visited my farm due to the daunting challenges posed by pests and diseases. However, after undergoing three months of learning with ADRA across twelve enlightening sessions, and subsequently applying these teachings to my farm, positive transformations gradually emerged.”

The impact was evident – previously abundant fruit had often succumbed to decay, but now, with newfound knowledge from ADRA, the cocoa plants flourished. Her dedication extended to grafting techniques, where she shared the successes and setbacks of grafting 53 out of 100 cocoa trees through multiple stages. Her accomplishments were a testament to her hard work and the guidance provided by ADRA.

Looking forward, Ibu Tanriani expressed her aspiration for even greater success, aiming for a 90% grafting success rate, with her current achievements reaching 50%.

“As a representative of the farming group, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to ADRA for the invaluable knowledge imparted, and we are eagerly awaiting the next programs.”
