Shelter kits distribution


On Friday, 29 January 2021, ADRA Indonesia distributed relief items to 500 families of victims of the earthquake in Galung village, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi. The shelter’s package consists of 3 sheets of 4×6 tarpaulin, 1/2 kg nails, 1 pcs hammer, and 30-meter rope. Most of the residents’ houses in this village were severely damaged by the earthquake on 15 January 2021.

A strict COVID-19 prevention protocol was in place. The relief items were sterilized before being handed over to the beneficiaries. ADRA explained to the community the importance of 5M ( always washing hands, using masks, maintaining a minimum distance of 1 meter, staying away from crowds, and limiting mobilization and interaction) and also provided masks and hand sanitizers to the beneficiaries during the distribution.

Good coordination between ADRA, the community and local government during the rapid need assessment was one of the keys to this distribution’s success. to prevent crowding during the disitribution, ADRA using coupons system with difference time of collecting arrangement The distribution of aid went well safely and smoothly. It was witnessed by the local government and traditional leaders of the Galung village community.

“Thank you very much for your help. We were able to build an emergency tent for our family close to our house,” said Pak Syarifuddin, one of the beneficiaries from Galung village.

This activity was part of ADRA response to distribute 2,200 shelter kits for the next two weeks. ADRA Shelter Engineering Staff is currently monitoring and building the emergency tents that the residents obtained from yesterday’s distribution.
