Drinking-Water for Flood Disaster Evacuees

“My Small Fund Became a Great Assistance for the Flood Evacuees in Bidara Cina and Kampung Melayu”.

Jakarta was hit by the flash flood from upstream, Bogor, on Monday, February 5, 2018. Floods that inundate riverbanks around the regions in Jakarta such as Srengseng Sawah, Rawajati, Kalibata, Pengadegan, Pejaten Timur, Kebon Baru, Bukit Duri, Balekambang, Cililitan, Chinese Bidara and Kampung Melayu and some other points reach the water level above 170cm. Many residents surrendered and eventually evacuated. More than 2,000 families (about 8,000 people) of Jakarta City residents are affected by floods. From the needs of clothing, foods, and shelter, ADRA Indonesia Volunteers decided to distribute drinking water for the evacuees.

Within one night (February 5) until the next day (February 6) we had collected IDR4,750,000.00 from fundraising by ADRA Indonesia Volunteers. Contribution from WIUM’s ACS Department had added Rp5.000.000,00.

Coordination with BPBD DKI Jakarta Province and aid-targeted urban villages had allowed us on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 to distribute as many as 200 boxes of drinking water of 600ml bottles (each box contains 24 bottles) to 763 families of flood victims in two urban villages in East Jakarta, which were Bidara Cina and Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu. We, on behalf of ADRA Indonesia Volunteers, would like to acknowledge the contributions of individuals, Gelam Jaya Seventh-day Adventist Church, Yayasan ADRA Indonesia, and Adventist Community Services (ACS) of West Indonesia Union Mission. May it is on the encouragement of your alms charity, this relief aid can alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster.

God is with and blesses all of us. Be Resilient!!!
