ADRA is taking significant strides in making a positive impact on the communities of East Nusa Tenggara with the implementation of the Anticipatory Action Project! Anticipatory Action is a proactive approach that focuses on pre-emptively responding to potential disasters and climate-related threats, reducing their impact and safeguarding lives and livelihoods.
Recently, ADRA organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) that brought together key stakeholders, including government officials and various organizations, all committed to building a more resilient and prepared community in East Nusa Tenggara. During the FGD, crucial steps were taken to identify and address the primary challenges related to emergency preparedness. The participants also conducted a comprehensive review of existing policies and regulations to ensure seamless integration and support for the Anticipatory Action initiative. Additionally, the FGD aimed to map out key actors and available resources, which will play an instrumental role in effectively executing emergency preparedness activities.
“Anticipatory action is the primary foundation in disaster management efforts. Its main objective is to minimize the potential impacts caused by disasters. By functioning well, effectively, and involving all relevant elements, anticipatory action can significantly reduce the risks and consequences of disasters.” said Ayub Manafe, Head of Prevention and Preparedness Division, Kupang District Disaster Management Agency.
With this collaborative effort, ADRA and its partners are dedicated to formulating a comprehensive and well-structured SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for Anticipatory Action tailored to the unique needs of the region. This strategic approach will not only enhance the community’s resilience in the face of potential hazards but will also empower the people of East Nusa Tenggara to proactively address climate change challenges. Together, we are creating a safer, more prepared, and sustainable future for the resilient communities of East Nusa Tenggara.
